چکیده
Abstract Background Problems in learning that sights, sounds, or situations were once associated with danger have become safe (extinction learning) may explain why some individuals suffer prolonged psychological distress following traumatic experiences. Although simple models been unable to provide a convincing account of this fails, it has recently proposed be explained by individual differences beliefs about the causal structure environment. Methods Here, we tested two competing hypotheses as how inference might related trauma-related psychopathology, using extinction data collected from clinically well-characterised varying degrees post-traumatic stress ( N = 56). Model parameters describing multiple disorder (PTSD) and depression symptom dimensions via network analysis. Results Individuals more severe PTSD likely assign observations conditioning stages single underlying cause. Specifically, greater re-experiencing severity was lower likelihood inferring causes active Conclusions We interpret these results providing evidence primary deficit discriminative participants PTSD. tendency attribute diversity stimulus configurations same cause resulted uncertainty stimulus-outcome associations, impeding both certain stimuli safe, no longer dangerous. In future, better understanding role psychopathology help refine cognitive therapies for disorders.

Differences in Cortisol Response to Trauma Activation in Individuals with and without Comorbid PTSD and Depression
Background: Although depression symptoms are often experienced by individuals who develop posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following trauma exposure, little is know about the biological correlates associated with PTSD and depression co-morbidity vs. those associated with PTSD symptoms alone. Methods: Here we examined salivary cortisol responses to trauma activation in a sample of 60 survivo...
متن کاملPreventing PTSD with oxytocin: effects of oxytocin administration on fear neurocircuitry and PTSD symptom development in recently trauma-exposed individuals
Background: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating psychiatric disorder which develops in approximately 10% of trauma-exposed individuals. Currently, there are few early preventive interventions available for PTSD. Intranasal oxytocin administration early posttrauma may prevent PTSD symptom development, as oxytocin administration was previously found to beneficially impact neuro...
متن کاملEmotion regulation, physiological arousal and PTSD symptoms in trauma-exposed individuals
OBJECTIVES Retrospective studies suggest a link between PTSD and difficulty regulating negative emotions. This study investigated the relationship between PTSD symptoms and the ability to regulate negative emotions in real-time using a computerised task to assess emotion regulation. METHOD Trauma-exposed ambulance workers (N = 45) completed self-report measures of trauma exposure, PTSD sympto...
متن کاملThe PTSD symptom scale's latent structure: an examination of trauma-exposed medical patients.
Several studies have employed confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to evaluate the latent structure of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) assessment measures among various trauma-exposed populations. Findings have generally failed to support the current three-factor DSM-IV PTSD conceptualization, demonstrating the need to consider alternative models. The present study used CFA to evaluate seven...
